Republic polytechnic collaborated with Media Literacy Council and Sembawang GRC to organize outreach talks for secondary school students to increase awareness of the issues youths face online and promote the media literacy core values.

This is the first project by our students in Diploma in Mass Communciation that involved students conducting outreach talks to secondary school students. The outreach talks were held at Sembawang Secondary, Woodlands Secondary, Naval Base Secondary, Christ Church Secondary and Northbrooks Secondary School.

Research has shown that most Singaporeans spent 2.5 hours of their time on the
internet everyday.

The objectives of the campaign was to 

(a) To increase awareness of the dangers revolving the online world. 

(b) To inform students that such cases are ongoing and they are susceptible targets of the internet.

The concepts that were covered during the outreach talks were topics such as Privacy, Cyberbullying, Online predators/ scam, Addiction on the internet and games. 

​

The 2 marketing channels that were used to publicize about the campaign were direct marketing and interactive marketing. Our student speakers head down to the school to give out a informational talk regarding the harms of the internet with reference to the specific topics mentioned above. Also, interactive marketing were used as videos, posters, social media tools such as Instagram and Twitter were used to provide more information on the harms of the internet while publicizing about the campaign too.

The objectives have been met as majority of the social media posts has reached over 1000 views, and through the active participation during the outreach talks, we can concluded that the talk was a success.
